How to Rip DVD to HTC Wildfire S

HTC Wildfire S Review

The good: The HTC Wildfire S offers a decent set of features for a wallet-friendly price. The Android Gingerbread device has good build quality and call quality.
The bad: The smartphone's compact size won't suit everyone. The smaller display makes it a bit hard on the eyes when viewing Web sites and video, and the camera's picture quality could be better.
The bottom line: Its small size won't please everyone, but the HTC Wildfire S is a decent, entry-level Android smartphone for a very affordable price.

Dual-core and 4G smartphones might dominate the headlines these days, but the fact of the matter is that not everyone is after the latest and greatest. Some don't need all the bells and whistles; some are just making their first jump to a smartphone. There's also the fact that the higher-end devices come with premium price tags, so there's certainly a market for affordable, entry-level devices. The HTC Wildfire S is one such device. At $79.99 with a two-year contract and after a $50 mail-in rebate, the Wildfire S brings a wallet-friendly Android smartphone to T-Mobile's lineup. It's certainly not the first--the carrier also has such models as the Samsung Gravity Smart and the LG Optimus T--but the Wildfire delivers better build quality and updated features. If you're on a budget or new to smartphones, the Wildfire S is certainly a good option, though its petite size will be a turnoff to some.

How to Rip DVD to HTC Hero

HTC Hero Review

The good: The HTC Hero offers a highly customizable user interface thanks to HTC Sense. It also improves on past Android devices with Outlook e-mail, calendar, and contacts synchronization, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a 5-megapixel camera. Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, and 3G support are all onboard.
The bad: The smartphone can occasionally be sluggish. Flash content didn't always work from the Web browser. Apps must still be downloaded to the phone's internal memory. Media syncing software would nice, as would be a file manager.
The bottom line: While it could use a boost in the performance department, the HTC Hero is the most feature-packed Google Android device to date, bringing some notable improvements and a highly customizable interface.

While they share the same name, the Sprint HTC Hero looks nothing like its European GSM counterpart. Gone is the signature "chin" that became the trademark of HTC's Android devices, including the T-Mobile G1 and the T-Mobile MyTouch 3G, which surprisingly got some boos from readers. We always thought the chin looked a bit weird and weren't too fond of it, but of course, style is subjective. If anything, it did give the phones a distinctive and memorable look whereas the Sprint Hero kind of blends into the crowd.

That said, the Hero is still an attractive handset. Without the chin and sporting rounded corners, the smartphone has a smoother, streamlined look. It's also quite compact at 4.46 inches tall by 2.2 inches wide by 0.54 inch thick and weighs 4.5 ounces. It fits nicely in the palm of your hand and even though it shares a similar shape to the MyTouch 3G, the build quality of the Hero is much better. It doesn't feel slick or plasticky, thanks to the soft-touch finish throughout the body of the phone as well as the brushed metal plate just under the front display.

How to Rip DVD to HTC Radar 4G

HTC Radar 4G Review

The good: The HTC Radar 4G boasts a beautiful, high-quality design. Windows Phone Mango offers a smooth user experience and some great feature enhancements. The smartphone's 5-megapixel camera is fast and delivers great photos; a front-facing camera also allows for video calls.
The bad: The Radar 4G doesn't offer expandable memory or a user-replaceable battery. Call quality could be better.
The bottom line: The combination of a beautiful design, Windows Phone, and an affordable price tag makes the HTC Radar 4G a great smartphone for first-time buyers and those who don't need all the bells and whistles.

In early September, HTC stopped by the CNET offices to show off its new Windows Phone devices, the HTC Titan and HTC Radar. Though the Titan was the better phone in terms of specs, it was the Radar that grabbed my attention, with its combination of a beautiful design and the slickness of Windows Phone 7.5 Mango. Now, T-Mobile customers get to experience the same thing with the HTC Radar 4G, which is available now for $99.99 with a two-year contract. It's a great price for a great phone that might not attract the early adopters and gadget heads but should please everyone else.

The HTC Radar 4G is one of the more striking smartphones I've seen in a while. The white-and-silver color scheme helps it stand out from the crowd, and its sleek, aluminum unibody design makes for a very high-quality-feeling phone. At 4.74 inches tall by 2.42 inches wide by 0.43 inch thick and 4.83 ounces, it's also nice and compact, and the tapered edges make it even easier to slip the handset into your pocket. The Radar 4G is pretty much everything I'm looking for when it comes to the design, but if there's one downside it's that the smartphone doesn't have a user-replaceable battery.

How to Rip DVD to HTC Titan II

HTC Titan II Review

The good: With an arrestingly large 4.7-inch screen, 4G LTE, satisfying performance, and the highest-resolution camera ever on a U.S. smartphone, the HTC Titan II raises the bar for Windows Phone devices.
The bad: While an ultrasharp shooter sounds great, we're not sure about paying an extra $100 for the privilege. The phone's massive size could be an issue for smaller hands and the display wasn't as sharp as we'd like.
The bottom line: The HTC Titan II pushes the limit of just how big and capable a Windows smartphone can be. If it weren't for the lower-priced Nokia Lumia 900, the Titan II would be the greatest Windows Phone 7 handset to walk the earth.

The HTC Titan II is every bit true to its mythological namesake. If it were cheaper than the Nokia Lumia 900, or if its rival didn't exist at all, it would be the biggest, baddest smartphone running Microsoft's operating system. It has agreeable performance and a few standout features under its large 4.7-inch-screened hood, but that same display left me hanging in other ways. And though its design is metallic and sturdy,it wasn't without its flaws. Find out if it's worth the splurge or if a cheaper Windows handset is a better choice.

How to Rip DVD to HTC Titan

HTC Titan Review

The good: The HTC Titan has a premium and polished design coupled with a colorful and vibrant display. It ships with the latest Windows Phone 7.5 Mango OS, and has a 1.5GHz Qualcomm processor, an 8-megapixel camera that takes great pictures, and a front-facing 1.3-megapixel camera for video chat.
The bad: Battery life takes a big hit when using 4G. There is no way to toggle between 3G and 4G.
The bottom line: The HTC Titan's big and beautiful design and impressive features make it one of the better Windows Phone offerings on AT&T.

One of the best weapons in Windows Phone's arsenal is a well-designed phone, which is why I'm happy that HTC is along for the ride. HTC has a history of beautifully designed phones that are exceedingly polished with a premium feel, and I think the HTC Titan certainly fits that bill. Aside from its good looks and imposing size, it packs in a solid 1.5GHz processor, the latest Windows Phone 7.5 Mango operating system, an 8-megapixel camera with dual-LED flash and 720p HD video capture, a front-facing 1.3-megapixel camera, and support for AT&T's HSPA+ network. The Titan will cost you $199.99 with a new two-year agreement, but if you're interested in trying Windows Phone you should definitely give the Titan a look.

How to Rip DVD to HTC Droid Eris

HTC Droid Eris Review

The good: The HTC Droid Eris offers a slim design, plentiful features, and satisfying performance. It also has pinch and zoom multitouch.
The bad: The HTC Droid Eris has mixed multimedia quality. It comes only with the Android 1.5 OS, there's no file manager, and internal performance was occasionally sluggish.
The bottom line: Though its performance wasn't completely top-notch and we would prefer a more recent Android OS version, the HTC Droid Eris is a satisfying Android device that offers a nice contrast to the Motorola Droid. And you can't beat the price.

Though the HTC Droid Eris is essentially a rebranded version of the HTC Hero, the smartphone's design deserves its own mention because it's a beautiful device. The style may be familiar to anyone who knows HTC's Touch devices, as it's a little reminiscent of the HTC Touch with its smooth, rounded corners and black soft-touch finish. Admittedly, the black casing isn't all that exciting, but it's still a classic and it's accented by chrome edges.

In the hand, the Droid Eris feels like a solidly constructed phone. It measures 4.45 inches tall by 2.19 inches wide by 0.51 inch thick and weighs 4.23 ounces, so it's slim enough to slip into a pants pocket and feels comfortable to hold during phone calls. In addition, HTC added a proximity sensor, a feature that was missing on the Sprint HTC Hero, so now the screen will turn off when you're on a phone call to prevent any accidental misdials from a brush of your cheek. Speaking of the screen, the Droid Eris's 3.2-inch HVGA capacitive touch screen is hard to ignore. With a 320x480-pixel resolution, the display is amazingly sharp and vibrant. Text is easy to read and the colors of images are vibrant and rich. The Android interface, with its icon-based main menu, is familiar, but we're disappointed that the Droid Eris comes only with Android OS 1.5. That means you'll have to wait for OS 1.6 and 2.0.

How to Rip DVD to HTC ThunderBolt

HTC ThunderBolt Review

The good: The HTC ThunderBolt offers incredibly fast 4G data speeds. The Android 2.2 smartphone also supports simultaneous voice and data over 3G and boasts a large 4.3-inch touch screen, ample storage, and an excellent camera.
The bad: Battery life takes a big hit when using 4G. There is no way to toggle between 3G and 4G.
The bottom line: The HTC ThunderBolt lights up with blazingly fast data speeds, but those who want 4G now should be aware that it takes a big toll on the smartphone's battery life.

The HTC ThunderBolt is cut from the same cloth as the HTC Evo 4G and the HTC Desire HD, so if you've ever handled those devices, then you have a fairly good idea of what to expect from the ThunderBolt.

At 4.75 inches tall by 2.44 inches wide by 0.56 inch thick and 6.23 ounces, the ThunderBolt isn't for those who prefer dainty devices. The smartphone is large and actually slightly thicker and heavier than the Evo, but it's manageable and the tapered back and soft-touch finish make it comfortable to hold in the hand. As we've come to expect from HTC, the phone is solidly built and has a nice, premium feel to it.
