How to Rip DVD to Nokia Lumia 810

Nokia Lumia 810 Review

The good: Nokia's Lumia 810 has decent call quality and a nice helping of extra software that differentiates it from other Windows phones. It's also one of the first Windows phones with external storage.
The bad: This bulky smartphone has an uninspiring build and is more expensive than AT&T's higher-end Lumia 920.
The bottom line: The Nokia Lumia 810 makes for a practical smartphone choice, but if you're looking for something thin and light, the HTC Windows Phone 8X is one better option.

T-Mobile's Nokia Lumia 810, isn't an immediate knockout. Its thick, heavy, slablike form is hard to love. But since beauty is only skin-deep, T-Mobile customers will find hearty hardware and software features within. All things being equal, I prefer AT&T's Nokia Lumia 920, which is both more powerful and also easier on the eye (although it's a full ounce heavier). That said, the Lumia 810 does have a very nice screen, an 8-megapixel camera, a zippy dual-core processor that's identical to the Lumia 920's, and a host of extra apps.

The Lumia 810 is also pricier than the heavily subsidized $99 Lumia 920. However, it's still less expensive than the much more attractive-looking HTC Windows Phone 8X, which is also available on T-Mobile for $199. Pricing gets a little funny for the Lumia 810. On the Classic plan, the 810 will cost $149.99 after a $50 mail-in rebate on a two-year agreement. T-Mobile's Value plan is the better deal, $99 up-front after a $50 mail-in rebate, and 20 equal payments of $20 per month, but with lower monthly payments over the course of two years. You'll save about $100. Check out my pricing breakdown for more details.

How to Rip DVD to Nokia Lumia 820

Nokia Lumia 820 Review

The good: AT&T's Nokia Lumia 820 offers Windows Phone 8, 4G LTE, and a terrifically low subsidized price.
The bad: This Lumia is heavy, a little slippery, and has a short battery life. Data speeds were variable.
The bottom line: If you're looking for an inexpensive, approachable smartphone with a few more features, the Nokia Lumia 820's price tag is tough to beat.

It may only cost $50 for AT&T after a new, two-year service agreement, but the Nokia Lumia 820 isn't just a pretty price tag.
The third in a series of phones that also includes the 810 and 822, Nokia's Lumia 820 is the less expensive and slightly less expansive alternative to AT&T's more advanced Lumia 920.

This variation is also heavier than its cohort, has a smaller battery capacity, and exhibits sometimes slower data speeds than expected.
Yet it still has the dual-core processor, the (so-so) 8-megapixel camera, the extra Nokia apps that other Windows Phones won't get (like voice navigation), and the option of including wireless charging. And yes, the 820 has that extremely low price tag going for it, too.

How to Rip DVD to Nokia Lumia 822

Nokia Lumia 822 Review

The good: Nokia's Lumia 822 delivers 4G LTE and a nice 8-megapixel camera, and adds 16GB of onboard storage with room for 64GB more.
The bad: A heavy build and rough, scratchy call quality detract from the Lumia 822's overall appeal.
The bottom line: The Nokia Lumia 822 offers a very good value for Verizon, but if you're into stylish design and spotless call quality, this isn't the phone for you.

The Nokia Lumia 822 scores points where it counts, performing its LTE and Windows Phone 8 functions well. Its $99 contract price tag makes for a good value smartphone, but like its other Lumia cousins, the 822's thick, bland design drags the phone down. It's going to be a great smartphone for a certain demographic, but it certainly won't appeal to the masses.

Although it shares many features with AT&T's Nokia Lumia 920, there are some hardware differences in the camera department, and the Lumia 822's smaller complement of onboard memory can get a boost with a microSD card slot where the 920 cannot. In the grand scheme, the lower price and software features like voice navigation give the 822 leverage against Verizon's HTC Windows Phone 8X, though its design is much less compelling.

How to Rip DVD to Nokia Lumia 900

Nokia Lumia 900 Review

The good: The Nokia Lumia 900's eye-popping unibody design sets a new direction for smartphone style. Its LTE speeds, vivid 4.3-inch screen, and 8-megapixel camera are high points.
The bad: Problems with call quality and minor design flaws like some gaps in the construction and weirdly placed buttons get in the way. The designer camera optics are good, but they don't live up to the hype. The phone shoots 720p video rather than 1080p video.
The bottom line: The Nokia Lumia 900's unique design and high-end features make Windows Phone look fantastic, and the $99 price is extremely fair. Despite some flaws, this is my favorite Windows Phone yet.

Nokia sorely needs a "hero" smartphone with the looks, the speeds, the specs, and a price that will hush the doubters. With the Lumia 900, Nokia proves that it has the chops to compete. We thought so at CES, where we awarded it best new smartphone, and I think so now.

But is the Lumia 900 a breakthrough device? The features are high for Windows Phone's threshold (the OS doesn't yet support multicore processors), but the phone lacks a halo-making feature like the Nokia PureView with its gasp-inducing 41-megapixel camera. While a revolutionary new feature could clinch Nokia's victory, what it has now in the Lumia 900 is the best Windows phone I've tested yet, and it's perfect for the mainstream market. Of course, my assessment could always change in a week when the HTC Titan II launches, with its whopping 16-megapixel camera, though to me, the Lumia 900 is ahead in style points. It's also half the price: $99.99 versus $199.99.

Beyond the looks, I'd recommend the Lumia 900 without hesitation to anyone considering a Windows Phone -- although I'm psychologically incapable of leaving out important caveats. I love the Lumia 900's bold look and the way that the phone's style and screen make the Windows Phone interface pop. With Windows Phone nearly identical on all handsets, Nokia really only has the hardware to control, and in terms of specs, it did a great job (mostly). LTE...check. Strong camera quality, check. Fast processor, sturdy construction, check and check. There are still some changes I'd make if Nokia had asked for my opinion, including the placement of some buttons, quality control when it comes to calls and on a couple external components, and 1080p HD video rather than 720p. However, none of these flaws would keep me from using the 900.

How to Rip DVD to Nokia Lumia 920

Nokia Lumia 920 Review

The good: The Nokia Lumia 920 forges new Windows Phone ground with wireless charging support and a highly sensitive screen you can use with gloves. Moreover, Nokia helps fill in Windows Phone OS gaps with a few missing features.
The bad: A thick, heavy build and slippery finish for some colors make the Lumia 920 harder to hold and carry, and the phone's overhyped camera doesn't have enough settings.
The bottom line: Nokia's Lumia 920 is heavy and thick, but if you want the most powerful, feature-rich Windows phone available, this is it.

AT&T's Nokia Lumia 920 isn't for wimps. It's big, it's heavy, and it takes a power user to truly appreciate the phone's special features. If you open your heart and expand your pockets, the Lumia 920's smooth, streamlined design beautifully showcases all that the just-launched Windows Phone 8 OS has to offer. Beyond that, a glove-friendly screen, wireless charging, cached music, and turn-by-turn directions take the Lumia 920 a step further than Windows Phone can achieve on its own, bringing you the roundest, fullest Windows Phone experience that money can buy.
Just because the Lumia 920 is bigger, doesn't mean that it's better for everyone. Not all AT&T customers who can choose between the Lumia 920 and the HTC Windows Phone 8X -- or even pick among the iPhone 5 or an Android phone or two -- will go Nokia. However, for $99, I would.
The specs are strong, but not everyone feels they need 32GB of memory over 16GB, and if you believe Nokia's trumpeting message about its advanced camera, you could find yourself mildly disappointed. The Lumia 920's chief high-end Windows Phone rival, the Windows Phone 8X, is lighter, handles better, and spans three carriers to the Lumia 920's single provider. You'll be able to find a comparison between the 8X and the Lumia 920 here.

How to Rip DVD to Nokia Lumia 928

Nokia Lumia 928 Review

The good: Nokia's Lumia 928 introduces a slimmer body and straight, grippable sides. Low light camera performance is top-notch.
The bad: Verizon's typically blazing speeds stumbled on the Lumia 928, and call quality sounded harsher than Nokia's usual standard. Those looking for Nokia's bright statement hues won't find them here.
The bottom line: Windows Phone fans on Verizon should buy the $100 Nokia Lumia 928 for its strong feature set, but watch out for slower-than-usual data speeds.

For everyone who thought that Nokia's Lumia phones are too heavy and thick comes the start of an antidote: Verizon's notably slimmer Nokia Lumia 928, which sells for a decidedly wallet-friendly $99.99.

Flat sides and a slimmer profile give the 928 a cleaner, sharper look than its chunkier Lumia 920 counterpart for AT&T, though it lacks the even slimmer silhouette and metal allure of T-Mobile's new T-Mobile's new Lumia 925.

Under the hood, the 928's specs mostly match up to its AT&T and T-Mobile cousins. The 4G LTE devices feature the same Windows Phone 8 operating system, 4.5-inch 720p HD screen, fast 1.5Ghz dual-core processor, and 8.7-megapixel camera with image stabilization and PureView image processing. One notable difference is the 928's xenon flash in addition to the LED, which Nokia claims will boost image performance.

How to Rip DVD to Nokia Lumia 925

Nokia Lumia 925 Review

The good: Nokia's Lumia 925 has a sleek, slim, partially aluminum build. Its camera takes great shots, especially in low light conditions, and the LTE smartphone comes in at an affordable price.
The bad: The Lumia 925 is a little wide and squat, and sharp corners diminish handheld comfort. T-Mobile's version has 16GB of storage instead of 32GB.
The bottom line: Nokia's lovely Lumia 925 delivers a high-end Windows Phone experience, but camera snobs with deep pockets should hold out for AT&T's Lumia 1020.

You can sum up the Nokia Lumia 925 in three words: 41, megapixel, camera. It's the Lumia 1020's high-octane shooter -- along with Nokia's custom camera app -- that defines this next marquee Windows Phone 8 device, and that gives mobile photographers a reason to salivate. In the 1020, Nokia pushes the smartphone camera envelope with a combination of raw image-capturing prowess and close-cropping capability that makes it one of the most artistically able smartphone cameras we've tested.

Would we ditch our point-and-shoot cameras and rely on the Lumia 1020 instead? For day-to-day and weekend events, absolutely; the 1020 is the ultimate in convenience and approaches point-and-shoot quality. However, based on our tests so far, Nokia still has a ways to go before it can completely supplant the need for a higher-level standalone camera. We'd take it away for the weekend, but wouldn't use it to shoot our kid's first birthday.
